Quality, Standards & Enhancement
The University’s scheme of academic governance and the work of the Governance Services Unit (GSU) aim to guide, support and enhance the work undertaken in Schools and Faculties in relation to the quality of the learning opportunities for students, the maintenance of the academic standards of programmes and enhancement of the student experience.
Governance focuses largely on the effectiveness of processes, the analysis of outcomes and ensuring that the University is properly informed by external policy initiatives and developments in reviewing existing practices and driving continuous improvement. Senate and its committees have a key role in overseeing the effectiveness of academic policies but consultation with staff and students also takes place outside the deliberative committee cycle. Current policy/regulatory consultations with staff can be found on the Staff Consultations page.
The University’s academic policies and procedures are collated in the Academic Handbook maintained by the GSU.
