Purpose
The Learning Teaching and Enhancement Committee advises Senate on the maintenance of academic quality and standards in the University’s taught provision and the enhancement of academic practice. The Learning, Teaching and Enhancement Committee has a particular responsibility for assuring the quality of the student experience.
Terms of Reference
i. To advise Senate on the development and review of academic policies for:
- the delivery and routine monitoring of programmes
- entry requirements and admissions policies, including the accreditation of prior learning
- information and learning support for students
- the assessment of students, including moderation, external examining, the content of student transcripts and the appeals procedure
- the enhancement of pedagogy, the curriculum (including core skill sets) and the learning environment
- the establishment and operation of Boards of Study for programmes that are not the sole responsibility of one School or College
ii. To advise Senate on the academic regulations for taught programmes, including the establishment, revision or discontinuation of degrees and other taught awards of the University.
iii. To consider and advise Senate on student progression and achievement data for taught programmes.
iv. To consider and advise Senate on data from University and external student surveys with specific regard to the quality of the learning experience on taught programmes.
v. To promote innovation and good practice in learning and teaching and to monitor learning and teaching initiatives which facilitate quality enhancement.
vi. To consider institutional issues arising from evaluations of taught programmes and student achievements in annual monitoring and External Examiners’ reports and to report to Senate and to Colleges on their consideration and resolution as appropriate.
vii. To consider reports from external agencies, professional, statutory and regulatory bodies and other stakeholders in relation to the Committee’s business, with particular regard to the quality of the student experience, and to advise the PVC Academic on responses thereto

viii. To monitor and keep under review the operation of taught programmes of study administratively located outside the College structure and to consider reports and recommendations from relevant Boards of Studies.
ix. To advise Senate on the development, promotion and performance of learning, teaching and enhancement of taught programmes in the context of the University's approach to academic engagement.
x. To advise Senate on the development, promotion and performance of learning, teaching and enhancement of taught programmes in the context of the University's approach to internationalisation.
xi. To assist and advise the Academic Programmes and Partnerships Committee in the formulation and review of relevant academic regulations, policies and procedures which are the responsibility of that Committee, with specific regard to policies for the approval, amendment and review of programmes and the consideration of reports from professional, statutory and regulatory bodies on the accreditation and re-accreditation of programmes
xii. To work in collaboration with Research Committee to ensure a consistent approach to matters affecting students
xiii. To recommend to Senate, through the Academic Governance Committee, the establishment, terms of reference and composition of any time-limited working groups deemed necessary to develop, advance or review the Committee’s business.
